Alcoholics Anonymous

John sat in front of the television, watching a news report with rapt attention. The report showed a groundbreaking discovery in the field of robotics — a new type of android that could think and feel like a human being. However, what caught John’s attention was the ticker tape at the bottom of the screen that read, “Five Arrested for Selling Illegal Alcohol to Minors.”

“Grandpa Isaac, why do people still sell illegal alcohol when it’s banned?” John asked, turning to his grandfather, who was sitting in his favourite armchair.

Isaac took a sip from his glass of water and sighed. “People have always found ways to do what they’re not supposed to do, John. But I remember a time when alcohol was legal, and it caused a lot of problems.”

John furrowed his brow in confusion. “What kind of problems?”

“Alcohol was responsible for a lot of health issues, accidents, and even deaths,” Isaac explained. “It became such a serious problem that the government had to ban it altogether.”

John’s eyes widened in surprise. “I didn’t know that. Do people still drink it?”

Isaac shook his head. “No, it’s illegal, and people know the risks. But just like with anything else, there will always be those who try to break the law.”

John nodded thoughtfully, and then watched as his grandfather reached into his pocket and pulled out a small package.

“What’s that, Grandpa?” he asked.

Isaac grinned mischievously. “It’s a Snus package, John — filled with a new substance called MEHD. It’s an artificial compound that can stimulate the brain to produce a sense of euphoria and relaxation, without any of the harmful effects of alcohol.”

John looked at his grandfather with wonder. “Really? Is it legal?”

Isaac nodded. “Yes, it is. We learned from the mistakes of the past and worked hard to develop a safe and effective substance. It’s not for everyone, but it works for me.”

John watched as his grandfather put the snus package into his mouth, and then looked up at him with a grin. “You know, Grandpa, you’re a pretty cool scientist.”

Isaac laughed. “Thanks, John. You’re not so bad yourself. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll be the one inventing the next big thing.”

As John left the room, Isaac sat back in his chair and smiled. The world had changed a lot since he was a young man, but the spirit of innovation and discovery was still alive and well. And as long as people were willing to learn from their mistakes, there would always be hope for a better future.
